Today’s Passage
“‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I cancelled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?'” (Matthew 18:32-33)

One-Line Message
The moment we forget the forgiveness we received, we forget that we were ever forgiven at all.
Reflection
A servant owed an impossible debt — ten thousand talents, more than he could repay in a lifetime — and it was completely cancelled. Yet that same servant grabbed a fellow servant by the throat over a debt of a hundred denarii, an incomparably small amount, and had him thrown in prison. This is the shock of the parable: we so easily forget the size of the forgiveness we’ve received from God, while precisely calculating what others owe us. The real problem wasn’t that the servant failed to receive forgiveness — it’s that he failed to live out the forgiveness he’d already been given. Forgiveness doesn’t end the moment we receive it; it’s proven in the life that follows.
Reflection Questions
- Have you ever compared the size of the forgiveness you’ve received from God to what you demand from others?
- If you remembered the grace you’ve received, who could you forgive more easily right now?
Prayer
Lord, don’t let me forget the size of the forgiveness I’ve received. Let me forgive as generously as I have been forgiven.
