Today’s Passage
“A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, ‘Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?’ He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.” (Mark 4:37-39)

One-Line Message
Even in the middle of the storm, the Faithful One was already in the boat.
Reflection
The disciples felt the terror of death as the boat filled with water in a violent storm. Yet Jesus was peacefully asleep in that very boat. The disciples’ fearful question — “don’t you care if we drown?” — resembles the question we often ask God ourselves. When circumstances feel out of control, we can feel as though God is indifferent or absent. But Jesus was already there, in the boat, in the middle of the storm. And with a single word, He calmed the wind and the sea. Faithfulness doesn’t always mean preventing the storm from coming — it means being present within it, and ultimately bringing it to peace.
Reflection Questions
- In the storm of your life right now, is there a moment you feel as though Jesus isn’t present?
- How could you receive the words “Quiet! Be still!” into your situation today?
Prayer
Lord, let me trust that You are present even in the middle of the storm. The greater my fear, the more let me look toward You, already in the boat.
