Faith & Obedience QT — Episode 6. Cast Your Net into Deep Water

Today’s Passage
“Simon answered, ‘Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.'” (Luke 5:5)

One-Line Message
When experience says “no,” obedience holds onto the word instead.

Reflection
Peter was a skilled fisherman who had cast his nets all night without catching a single fish. Yet Jesus told him to go out into deep water and let down the nets. Peter knew from experience that fish didn’t come to shallow water during the day. His expertise and experience both said this command made no sense. Yet Peter, while acknowledging his experience — “we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything” — still obeyed: “But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” Obedience is sometimes the decision to hold onto God’s word even when it goes against our own experience and knowledge.

Reflection Questions

  1. Is there an area where your experience or expertise says “this won’t work,” but God’s word is leading you differently?
  2. Like Peter, if you acknowledged your experience yet still obeyed the word, what would you try today?

Prayer
Lord, help me trust Your word even beyond my own experience and knowledge. Even after a night of fruitless labor, give me the faith to let down the nets again because You say so.
