Today’s Passage
“Jesus said to the servants, ‘Fill the jars with water’; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, ‘Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.’ They did so.” (John 2:7-8)
One-Line Message
Obedience acted out before it’s understood becomes the channel through which miracles flow.
Reflection
When the wine ran out at the wedding in Cana, Jesus told the servants to fill the jars with water. They weren’t given an explanation of why, or how this connected to the wine shortage. Yet the servants filled every jar to the brim. And when the next instruction came — to draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet — they obeyed that too. The miracle happened within the act of the servants’ obedience. They followed the command without seeing the outcome first, and that obedience became the channel for the miracle. When we obey even in moments we don’t understand, God works within that obedience.
Reflection Questions
- Is there a small action God seems to be asking of you right now that doesn’t quite make sense?
- Like the servants, if you obeyed before seeing the outcome, what could you begin today?
Prayer
Lord, let me obey first, even in moments I don’t understand. Let my small obedience become the channel through which Your miracles flow.
