Forgiveness QT — Episode 6. The Father Who Ran

Today’s Passage
“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.” (Luke 15:20)

One-Line Message
Forgiveness doesn’t wait to be asked — it runs out first.

Reflection
The younger son had taken his inheritance early, squandered it all, and only returned to his father once he had lost everything. He had prepared words asking to be received back merely as a servant. But the father responded before those words were even finished. While the son was still far off, the father saw him, was filled with compassion, and ran to embrace and kiss him. In that culture, for an elder — especially a father — to run and set aside his dignity was shocking. This forgiveness didn’t wait for the apology to be complete. The father’s love didn’t wait for conditions to be met; it moved the instant he saw the returning footsteps.

Reflection Questions

  1. Is there a relationship where you’re withholding forgiveness until the other person’s apology feels complete enough?
  2. If you practiced this kind of forgiveness — running out first, like the father — who could you run toward today?

Prayer
Lord, teach me not to wait for a complete apology, but to run out first like the father did. Let me have a heart that embraces the moment I see someone returning.
