Gratitude QT — Episode 7. Singing in Chains

Today’s Passage
“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.” (Acts 16:25)

One-Line Message
The praise sung in the darkest place echoed the farthest.

Reflection
Paul and Silas had been beaten and thrown into prison. Their feet were fastened in stocks, and the night was long and dark. It would have been understandable if they had cried out in complaint. Instead, they prayed. Instead of groaning, they sang. And that praise carried beyond the prison walls, reaching the ears of the other prisoners. Gratitude and praise aren’t reserved for good circumstances — they’re a choice we can make even in our darkest moments. And that choice has power that ripples out beyond ourselves.

Reflection Questions

  1. In the dark situation you’re facing right now, could you choose praise or gratitude?
  2. Has your gratitude ever reached beyond yourself and touched someone else?

Prayer
Lord, let my praise grow deeper the darker my circumstances become. Let my gratitude carry hope to others, not just myself.
