Today’s Passage
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)

Reflection
Lamentations was written from the site of Jerusalem’s total destruction. The temple lay in ruins, the people had been taken captive, and the prophet himself was in deep anguish. Yet right in the middle of that despair, Jeremiah makes an unexpected confession: “His compassions never fail. They are new every morning.” Standing amid total collapse, he looked not at his circumstances but at God’s character. Faithfulness isn’t something discovered only in good times — it can be confessed most clearly in the place of deepest loss and grief. Yesterday’s ruins cannot block today’s mercy.
