Faithfulness of God QT — Episode 3. Faithfulness to Ruth and Naomi

Today’s Passage
“But Ruth replied, ‘Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go…’… The women said to Naomi: ‘Praise be to the Lord, who this day has not left you without a guardian-redeemer.'” (Ruth 1:16, 4:14)

One-Line Message
In the deepest place of despair, God’s faithfulness was quietly continuing all along.

Reflection
Naomi lost her husband and both sons, returning to her homeland from a foreign land with nothing. Her despair was so deep she said, “Call me Mara, for the Almighty has made my life very bitter.” Yet in that place of despair, her daughter-in-law Ruth chose to stay with her to the end: “Where you go I will go.” The story continues as Ruth meets Boaz, gives birth to Obed, and the line eventually leads to David. Naomi may not have seen God’s faithfulness in the middle of that journey, but God was working faithfully even in what she couldn’t perceive. Faithfulness doesn’t stop, even in the moments we fail to notice it.

Reflection Questions

  1. Was there a time of despair when you couldn’t see God’s faithfulness at all?
  2. Looking back, have you realized God was working even in that place of despair?

Prayer
Lord, help me believe Your faithfulness never stopped, even in my place of despair. Even when I can’t see it now, let me hope for the day I’ll look back and give thanks.
