Genesis Series — Episode 6
🔥 Prologue — Tears Flowing at the Peak of Corruption
Following the lineage of Adam, humanity began to increase in number and spread across the face of the earth. However, what they multiplied upon the ground was not the glory of God. Although the world looked brilliant on the outside, overflowing with legendary heroes armed with immense physical strength, its inner core was thoroughly decaying.
The inclinations of human thoughts and plans were strictly evil all the time, leading the Creator of the universe to deeply lament and experience great sorrow in His heart. In that dark night when the heavy decree of judgment echoed across creation, only one man captured the heart of God. Discover the poignant story of a God who prepares an ark of holy grace even amidst a flood of wickedness.
🌙 Act One — Human Corruption and the Grief of God (Verses 1–7)
When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. It was a tragic moment where spiritual holiness was swallowed whole by fleshly pleasure. Then the LORD said, “My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal (flesh).” Their days will be a hundred and twenty years.
The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown. Yet, in stark contrast to their glittering worldly fame, the LORD saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.
“The LORD regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.”
So the LORD said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the creatures that move along the ground, and the birds of the air—for I regret that I have made them.”
💛 Act Two — The Man Who Found Favor, Noah (Verses 8–13)
In that desperate split second when the entirety of mankind faced total annihilation, a magnificent turning point emerges in a single sentence:
“But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.”
This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth.”
👐 Act Three — A Grand Blueprint to Shelter Life (Verses 14–22)
Alongside the decree of absolute destruction, God handed Noah a remarkably meticulous blueprint for salvation. “So make yourself an ark of gopher wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out.”
This is how Noah was to build it: The ark was to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high. He was to make a roof for it, leaving below the roof an opening one cubit high all around, put a door in the side of the ark, and make lower, middle and upper decks. God declared, “I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish.” But with Noah, God established a sacred covenant.
Noah was to enter the ark—him and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him. He was to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with him. Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground would come to Noah to be kept alive. Furthermore, he was commanded to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away.
“Noah did everything just as God commanded him.”
🕊️ Reflection — Walking in Obedience Against the Cultural Tide
Genesis Chapter 6 is the powerful account of a solitary man who walked in an entirely different direction while the rest of the world rushed headlong into corruption. The culture pursued the glamor of the Nephilim and the fame of ancient warriors, living solely to satisfy physical impulses. While everyone else accepted this as ‘normal’ and ‘progressive,’ Noah found the grace to recognize the deep sorrow of God. Beneath a dry, cloudless sky, he began constructing a massive wooden chest on top of a mountain.
Amidst the constant mocking and pointing fingers of his generation, the singular anchor that sustained Noah was his quiet, unswerving obedience: “Noah did everything just as God commanded him.” Noah built the ark, but in the end, that very ark preserved Noah’s life. “Today, are you drifting along with the trends and renowns of the world, becoming purely fleshly? Or are you empathizing with the grieving heart of God, quietly constructing an ark of obedience toward His unseen promise of salvation?”
